BMW Oil Leak Repair in Burnt Hills, NY
Oil leaks are the most common BMW repair — and the most commonly misdiagnosed. Our BMW specialists pinpoint the exact source and fix it right the first time.
If you own a BMW long enough, you'll deal with an oil leak. It's not a defect — it's a byproduct of BMW's engineering approach. High-performance engines generate significant heat, and over time, the rubber and silicone gaskets that seal oil passages harden, shrink, and crack. At Highline Motorsports in Burnt Hills, NY, we repair BMW oil leaks every single day. We know exactly where to look and what to replace.
The most common oil leak on inline-six BMWs (N52, N54, N55, B58) is the valve cover gasket. The molded rubber gasket sits on top of the cylinder head and seals the valve cover to the engine. Heat cycles cause it to deteriorate, and oil begins weeping down the side of the engine — often dripping onto the exhaust manifold, creating that burning oil smell. On the N54 and N55, the valve cover itself is plastic and often warps, requiring the entire cover to be replaced.
The oil filter housing gasket (OFHG) is the second most common leak, especially on N52, N54, and N55 engines. This gasket seals the oil cooler and filter housing assembly to the engine block. When it fails, oil leaks down the front of the engine and can contaminate the serpentine belt. We almost always replace the OFHG at the same time as the valve cover gasket since labor overlaps.
Other frequent oil leak sources include the oil pan gasket (especially on N62/N63 V8 engines where the gasket is a formed-in-place silicone seal), VANOS solenoid O-rings, eccentric shaft sensor seal (N52), rear main seal, and turbo oil feed and return lines on forced-induction engines.
We use UV dye tracing and thorough visual inspection to confirm leak sources before recommending repairs. Every oil leak repair at Highline includes fresh gaskets, new hardware where BMW specifies, and proper torque sequences. We serve BMW owners throughout Burnt Hills, Saratoga Springs, Clifton Park, Ballston Spa, Malta, Albany, and Schenectady.
